At the suggestion of my daughter who is ever so creatively funny. When you call mom (her Grandmother) you should sing, “You Are My Sunshine” when she answers. As my mom is a province away from me, this seemed like a very fun thing to do. Thank you, clever Andrea.
Without hesitation, Mom started singing with me, in tune and with great gusto. She is a performer. Mom, among other things, is a piano player. She sits at her piano everyday and always plays the Doris Day song, “Que Sera Sera.” It was a song that my dad, Jack, sang to her – start to finish – while she sat with him in palliative care. She marveled that he even knew all the words. Dad was always full of surprises. I also think he likely had a little crush on Doris.
As I play in my studio almost daily, I muster the best of what my mom, dad, children, family, life has taught me. It’s innate. It’s natural and it flows. Sort of like the song dad sang. Whatever will be, will be.

Today I sang with my mom.
